PLAYLIST 07: SUMMER

Oh Well Noelle

(1998)

Take time away from the earthquakes, those fatal sine waves in the ground like dance steps or anger from hunger; we made our minds up, and our beds.  The summer days were over.  Your friends all went inside.  The nights were growing colder and I felt my arms untied.  So it’s fine: your breathing matches mine and time will bend the light.  Hallucinations that fascinate me in the silence — no sound, like fistfights of anger from hunger.  That’s how the last one felt, and so did I (feign to notice).  The disregarded stumble through gutters labyrinthine, connected to the other by rivulets of dream.  Come back, darling, I’m fearful these wounds will get enflamed by some new passing sickness, from limb to spine and brain.  Come back, come back, come back, come back. The summer days were over.  Your friends all went inside.  The nights were growing colder and I felt my arms untied.  So it’s fine: your breathing matches mine and time will bend the light.

Oh well Nöelle.
